Celebrating the Autumnal Equinox

Updated: Oct 23, 2020

Equal hours of light and darkness.

For all that is bad, there is good.

For that which is despair, there is hope.

For the moments of pain, there are moments of love.

For all that falls, there is the chance to rise again.

Depending on your individual spiritual path, there are many different ways you can celebrate autumn. While we celebrate the gifts of the earth, we also accept that the soil is dying. We have food to eat, but the crops are brown and going dormant. Warmth is behind us and cold lies ahead.

Equinox is traditionally a time of balance. After all, it's one of the two times each year that has equal amounts of darkness and daytime. Because this is, for many people, a time of high energy, there is sometimes a feeling of restlessness in the air, a sense that something is just a bit "off". If you're feeling a bit spiritually unstable with a short meditation you can restore a little balance into your life.

It is also time to celebrate the abundance of the harvest and the bounty of the earth.

No matter how you're celebrating, it's always worth taking a moment to express our gratitude!

For me, Asure-Noah’s pudding is the best way to celebrate the abundance of the harvest and beginning of the autumn and it's a very popular dessert in the Turkish culture.

Noah’s pudding does not have one specific recipe as there are hundreds of variations of the same recipe. This nutritious and delicious pudding is made with whatever you have available. Among these are wheat, rice, beans, chickpeas, dried fruits such as apricots, raisins, currants, figs and nuts.

The nuts in Asure provide your body with iron, calcium, vitamin E and vitamin B.

On top of that, it is considered really good for the immune system, especially during the winter months. As it is made from wheat, this pudding is rich in carbohydrates and calories that keep you warm and give you the energy you need to stay active and healthy.

Sharing with others is an important aşure ritual. It is always prepared in vast amounts and distributed to neighbors, friends and even strangers.and share it with their neighbours

May we find balance in our lives as we find it in our hearts.
